Electronic connector OEMs operate in a market that shifts fast, while tolerance windows keep getting tighter. We help our partners ensure that their custom part configurations are dimensionally accurate, competitively priced, and delivered within very short timeframes. We have consistently developed a variety of high-quality electronic connectors, including components used in high-speed board-to-board, micro pitch, and rugged power to name a few.
We have partnered with some of our largest connectors customers and developed a proprietary mold changeover method. Not only does this method minimize mold changeover times, but it also reduces capital tooling costs. We’ve built some molds for customers that have the interchangeability to mold more than 1,000 unique part numbers (unique connector SKUs) from a single tool.

Two white room molding centers with all-electric high-speed machines ranging from 66T – 220T. All molding machines are equipped with cavity-pressure monitoring software (eDART), and many are outfitted with 3-axis robotics for part handling.

IN-HOUSE MOLD MAINTENANCE
Our In-house Mold Maintenance Department is staffed with experienced toolmakers—ensuring the longevity of our customers’ injection molds and minimizing downtime due to repair and maintenance issues. All spare steel is assigned a custom detail number and cataloged in our ERP system, which will notify us when we need to reorder certain spare cavity & core inserts.
24/7 DEPENDABILITY
Plastikos & Plastikos medical operate around the clock to further minimize downtime/risk to our customers’ supply chain. Due to the extensive engineering & automation techniques, many of our high-volume molding machines can run completely lights-out at night & weekends. All departments (QC, tool maintenance, material handling, etc.) are staffed to support this 24/7 schedule.

Our partnership dates all the way back to 1993 when Plastikos began supporting Our customer, an award-winning connector manufacturer focused on high-speed, micro board-to-board platforms. Over time, their catalog grew into thousands of configurations—and their market demanded short lead times, tight dimensional control, and repeatable execution.
Fast forward today, Plastikos supports this high-mix connector business with daily changeovers, disciplined process control, and tooling built for interchangeability. The relationship has scaled from early development work to a long-term, strategic supplier partnership.
The Initial Challenge
Our customer needed a molding partner that could deliver micro-scale connector geometry across a wide range of industries—without sacrificing speed or consistency. The program required:
- Micro-precision EDM capability for features as small as 0.0016 in.
- Expertise in molding shear-sensitive specialty resins, including LCP, in thin walls down to 0.006 in.
- Engineering and production support aligned to a “Sudden Service” model, with orders frequently fulfilled in three business days or less
- In-house staffing to execute complex mold changeovers with 100+ unique part combinations within certain molds
- Tooling and design creativity that enabled those same molds to produce thousands of unique part numbers
OUR APPROACH (DESIGN-BUILD-RUN)
1) Design for micro-features and thin-wall stability
- We engineered a proprietary process to run shear-sensitive LCP to produce thin-wall applications.
- Molds are designed with multiple levels of alignment to reduce parting line mismatch and core pin shutoff conditions.
2) Tooling engineered for high-mix configurability
- Our customer’s product strategy depends on many configurations from a common mold base.
- We supported molds designed for 100+ unique part combinations in certain tools, with mold changeovers capable of producing thousands of unique part numbers.
3) Changeover execution built for “Sudden Service”
- To meet three-day order fulfillment targets, our teams operated with dedicated changeover resources.
- We standardized changeover routines around complex mold configurations to keep schedule risk low, even as part mix shifted daily.
