Lead Material Handler

JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Material Handler is responsible for supporting Production Supervision/Management to ensure the completion of day-to-day tasks, material traceability, training, and overall efficiency of the Materials Group.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The primary or essential functions of the position include the following:
  1. Work with Production Supervision/Management to ensure Production’s daily success.
  2. Coach, mentor, and supervise up to 12 employees spread over all shifts, focusing on the positive.
  3. Confirms the group accurately weighs, labels, and scans materials to and from presses.
  4. Performs a daily lot check at each press, confirming accuracy.
  5. Review and approve groups’ timecards and ensure coverage for time off requests.
  6. Manages supplies, tools, PPE, and other needs for the group.
  7. Ensures successful training of new employees, including documentation and sign-offs.
  8. Works with Management in planning and scheduling of continuous improvement projects
  9. As part of a team, organize and maintain our 5S performance in the warehouse and Grind Room
  10. Determines and executes material changes from the schedule and accommodates changes
  11. Accurately mixes material, colorant, and/or re-pelletized material for production runs
  12. Assist with Regrind Resale
  13. Submits Work Orders into ALS for the group as items are needed.
  14. Properly cleans loaders, dryers, grinders, material lines, and hoppers
  15. Properly and safely operate the pelletizer
  16. Assists Quality Department personnel with audit support and corrective actions.
  17. 17. Safely performs duties related to forklift operation and scissor lift operation
  18. Work with Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse staff to help as needed.
  19. All other duties as assigned by Management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Requires oversight of up to 12 employees spread across all shifts.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

All employees must exemplify the Company’s core values of customer service (internal & external), teamwork, professionalism, respect, and continuous improvement. Additionally, the minimum job qualification & skills for this position include but are not limited to:

Education and/or Experience

  • 1-2 years’ experience as a supervisor, Material Handler experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Clearly and effectively communicates in English (verbal and written)
  • Communicates effectively with teammates and is a positive influence on the team.
  • Works well independently (self-motivated), as well as in a team environment
  • Maintains a positive attitude and strong individual work ethic
  • Possesses a strong attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office and IQMS.
  • Is capable of multi-tasking
  • Consistently meets deadlines
  • Possesses basic math skills
  • Displays proficiency in safe operation of forklifts
  • Regards safety as a priority
  • Possesses a commitment to housekeeping and to maintain a very clean work environment
  • Is willing to work Monday to Friday, some weekends (including overtime coverage when needed) on a split shift to cover all Production Teams. 6 AM-2 PM preferred.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, including management
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner

Mathematical Skills

  • Basic math skills required
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems that arise on the job using various skill sets
  • Ability to approach a problem in various ways to find the solution

Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • ERP & MRP (IQMS experience a plus)

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to motivate a team and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Cross-training in other areas to ensure teamwork and coverage
